Dr. Steve Hoffman developed Mastering Chiropractic with Certainty (MC2) as a technic in the 1990's. Among the major technic influencers behind MC2 were HIO from B.J. Palmer, Dr. Hubert Hitchcock and Life Upper Cervical Technic, Dr. Michael Kale (Kale Specific), Dr. Joe Lipari (BioToning), Dr. Tim Tarry, Dr. Bob Kribs (Grostic), Dr. Joe Stuckey (Integrated Methods), Dr. Joe Flesia, Dr. Pat Gentempo, and Dr. Jay Holder (TRT).
Subluxation correction always involves the skeletal, nervous and muscle systems. They can be differentiated from one another based on the system that is the primary focus and, hence, the method of analysis.
Segmental approaches focus first on structure and adjust vertebrae that are not in their optimum position back to a more normal position and, in so doing, affect the nervous system first and then the muscle system next.
Postural techniques seek to affect the muscle system first, which then affects the skeletal system and then, finally, the nervous system. Tonal chiropractic puts its focus on the nervous system and is physiology based. Here, the nervous system is addressed first which then affects the muscle system which, in turn, affects the skeletal system. Why tonal? Your nerve system is your interface with the world. Bones cannot move into abnormal positions by themselves so a muscle imbalance must occur first. Muscles do not act on their own so a muscle imbalance must result from an unbalanced nerve supply to the muscles. The bone can only move if a muscle moves it and a muscle will only move when the nervous system tells it to. It just makes more sense to us to address the nervous system first so all else can follow.

I find with specific and scientific neurological adjustments (mc2 adjustments) I get patients better faster (both feeling better, and clearer scans) and holding their adjustments longer and longer. The best part of the technique is that I have a system to know when someone needs an adjustment and when they don't. That sets me apart from other doctors in my area and now treatment plans are easy because it is based on how fast the body is healing, and not on any other factor.” “Hi Steve, I love MC2, and here's my testimonial:
Without a proper understanding of nervous system tone, and solely relying on more mechanistic/bone models of adjusting the spine with hopes of affecting nervous system function, I sometimes felt limited in my abilities to help some of my patients to fully achieve radical changes in their health. My book of success stories was short of the miracles I've heard of from so many gifted doctors out there who understood the nervous system better and could tap in to alter its function for the better. I was in search of that little something extra, that magic, which made the difference between a case of mediocre results or a patient who experienced a miraculous improvement in their health. MC2 simply and clearly gives me the certainty to know that I'm affecting the nervous system in a profound way when I adjust based on its analysis.
Thanks for developing such an amazing analysis, Dr. Steve!” “Dr. Steve,
As you know, the art of the chiropractic adjustment is an ongoing, career based, evolution for each of us. I graduated Palmer in 1977 with the training in what was then the "Palmer Package". That was a little understanding of Toggle Recoil, Diversified, Gonstead and what ever else one could amass at school. I thought I was God's answer to the world of chiropractic. My first office was under the tutelage of Dr. DeMent in Tucson, AZ. I will never forget his humbling comment about my technique. He said you come out of school thinking you are so great and in truth, you stink at adjusting (and maybe he didn't say it in not so nice a way). He was correct and I am still thankful for the truthful criticism. 32 years later, I am still learning and perfecting the art of adjusting. I've never wavered from the philosophy of chiropractic and continue to grow with it. You see, Chiropractic is vital and as so is ongoing. MC2 was a milestone in my understanding and application of tonal correction of the vertebral subluxation. I truly think that if every chiropractor took MC2 and applied the principles to their adjusting skills, we just may have a better world to live in.” “Steve, I love MC2… I attended a MC2 seminar when I was in my third trimester at CCC-KC. I was also studying Blair upper cervical at the time and was heavily influenced by a couple of local Blair practitioners. So, I leaned to the Blair-type linear thinking. It had been stressed to me, over and over, that a patient has the same atlas or axis listing for life with the only exception being trauma to induce a different listing. In my opinion, a Blair practice is a stressful practice because patients don't always clear (like I was told they would) when you repeatedly adjust the same atlas/axis listing over time. It wasn't long before I was searching for a better answer. And, taking a minimum of 8-10 x-rays per patient - prior to adjusting - is very time-consuming and tiring for the DC. I've always thought that everything happens for a reason and it just so happened that I had a 5-months pregnant lady start care. Obviously, I could not x-ray her so I did the normal upper cervical subluxation pattern pre-checks (Hip level, Thermography, leg check, etc.) and adjusted her with MC2. ALL of the post-adjustment checks cleared - hips were level, Thermal scan changed the pattern, legs balanced). It was great for her as well as for me because I didn't feel stressed with trying to get her done with the x-rays in a timely manner. I purchased the MC2 DVDs to brush up. To put it simply, I love MC2 because I feel relaxed and confident that I am providing top-of-the-line upper cervical care in an appropriate manner. I've attended 3 TRT seminars and like the "adjust no subluxation before its time" philosophy. Something I learned at a TRT seminar taught by TRT instructor Tom Redebaugh, DC is to biotone (lightly) with the Integrator cocked. Then, once the pulse is felt you can immediately "fire" the instrument. Dr. Redenbaugh told us that this would turn a "great" adjustment into an "extraordinary" adjustment. He said that little extra bit of specificity would make a huge difference. I was skeptical when he challenged us but am not a full believer after seeing the results that I have; quicker responses and holding the adjustment longer. Bryson J. Langel, D.C. “Dr Steve… Finally, a Chiropractic Technique that teaches when and where to adjust with ease for both the doctor and the Patients. With, MC2 Technique, I can clearly see changes in my patients scans, something that I was not seeing with my previous technique. My Patients are seeing results and each visit is totally different, I am not adjusting the same bone visits after visits after visits... Thanks to Dr. Steve, I am having fun in my Clinic.” Dr. Maxime Saint-Denis “Dr Steve Hoffman has developed an elegant and easy technique to master. His technique has provided me with the tools to know when, where, and how to adjust. This concept has saved me time and stress to my body as I use one third of the energy during my time in the office. Quality of Life with the people I serve as well as the scan results generated on their behalf is all the proof I need to know that MC2 by Dr. Steve Hoffman delivers the goods. Thank You!” “Your technique never ceases to amaze me. I've been a "rack 'em, crack 'em diversified adjuster forever and always leary of "instrument adjusting." I have to tell you, that since I started using your technique and the integrator adjusting instrument, my insight scans have shown DRAMATIC improvement that I never saw with diversified adjusting. I have total confidence in this technique, and in my ability to correct subluxations and restore optimum function for my patients!" Dr. Kathleen Bennett I just want to send you a quick note: I bought you practice building package (Success Kit) at Total Solution in June and I have just finished reviewing the mc2 DVD's. Wow!! I have never seen results like this in my office! I have a patient with spasmodic torticollis that she has had for over 35 years, with one adjustment her friends and family members commented on how straight she looked and that they have can't remember seeing her ever like this before. I also had a patient that has been out of work due to taking so many medications for a chronic shoulder pain. Again, after one adjustment, he is completely off of his medications and back to work. The best thing about all of this is the certainty that we can deliver an adjustment and more so when not to deliver an adjustment. As you said in your video: "I'm trading in the 81 Volvo, Porsche here I come!!!!!" With many thanks and gratitude,
Dr. Ron Robinson
